Recently, Rozz’s photo was hanging as part of the ‘Early days of Punk’ exhibition at Track 16 Gallery in L.A.
Wereby the question was raised to me: Should his art be hanging here? What is art? Does time translate trash into art?
I remember in 1996, going with Rozz to an exhibition of Man Ray at Track 16, and he brought a bag full of bread along. On the way to the gallery he started throwing the bread to beggars on the street, and the rich in Beverly Hills, while we were passing. When we went into the gallery, Rozz touched one of Man Ray’s sculptures. An attendant asked him not to do this. Rozz was angry at being scolded like a child, not to touch. On the way out, he took a loaf of bread out of the car, walked to the gallery and threw it inside. The guy looked terrified and Rozz said, ‘Don’t you touch this, this is art.’
